環保署從一九九二年起實施環保標章制度，依可回收、低汙染、省資源等環保特性，訂出電腦、傳真機、衛生紙、碳粉匣等各項商品的標章審查標準，廠商可主動申請，取得標章後使用期限為三年。

根據政府採購法中「綠色採購條款」，政府機關必須優先採購環保標章產品，每年綠色採購金額必須達總採購額度的九成，擁有環保標章的產品採購價格可較一般產品貴百分之十。

今年一至十月共有四九七家業者申請環保標章，共有一七○九件產品取得標章。目前具標章的商品共有四千七百多件。
