美國總統（歐巴馬）也收到類似於紐約市長（彭博）接獲的含有蓖麻毒的信件。秘勤局說，信件中途被攔截，目前正由聯邦調查局偵辦。

紐約市長彭博接獲的毒信中，所附的紙條，提到他支持加強槍枝管制，彭博串聯全美許多城市的市長，成立了一個市長反對非法槍隻的組織，兩封毒信的其中之一，就是寄到那個組織以彭博名義，設在華府的辦事處。另一封則是寄到紐約市長辦公室，在收發室被攔截，警方說，初步檢驗顯示它確實含毒。

蓖麻毒比氰化物還要毒上一千倍，吸入、吞嚥或是注射入體內，都可能致命。調查單位說，寄給彭博以及歐巴馬的信件，都蓋有路易斯安納（什里夫波特）市的郵戳，當地郵局責任範圍涵蓋路易斯安納、德州以及阿肯色，信件有可能來自這三個州的任何一個，紐約市警局長（凱利）認為，歐巴馬的信，應該與紐約市長彭博的信，來源相同。
