莊智淵揹債千萬造新秀　曾求郭董金援

32歲的莊智淵，雖體力已過25歲的巔峰期，但他球技焠鍊更趨成熟，愈沉愈香，在世界桌球錦標賽男雙奪金，創最佳成績。熱愛桌球的莊智淵，為了推廣桌球，97年7月在家族獨資下，花上億蓋了佔地300坪的「智淵乒乓運動館」，培育新秀選手，但也因此背債千萬，他的哥哥受訪時曾笑說不可能靠桌球賺錢，運動館的貸款都靠莊智淵征戰國際的獎金。

《自由時報》報導，「智淵乒乓運動館」苦心培養2名新秀孫嘉宏和王維，其中16歲的孫嘉宏能力傑出，去年越級入選成人國手，莊智淵今年想讓這2名子弟兵出國打公開賽，但卻苦無經費，他突發奇想找鴻海集團董事長郭台銘幫忙，寫mail給郭董希望尋求贊助。
